Study Abroad Program in South Korea (SU26)

Lecture by Visiting Artist Em Rooney

VCU's Sculpture + Extended Media department will present a lecture by Em Rooney at the Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, 601 W. Broad St. Rooney’s multimedia practice is anchored in a study of film, photography and ephemeral materials. In the artist’s earlier work, analog methods of photography were paired with sculptural framing devices while maintaining a conceptual link to film: costume design, filmic ephemera and the portrayal of women onscreen.

Join the VCU Libraries’ Collections Care Team for a behind-the-scenes look at where Collections Care Technician Interns practice a hands-on approach when learning book repair techniques for VCU Libraries. In this session, the discussion will involve how to consider mistakes as learning opportunities to develop critical thinking, confidence and achieve greater success. Success means asking questions, sharing ideas, discussing what went well and what did not, figuring out individual learning styles and supporting one another through this process. Workshop: Jewish Students, Belonging and Understanding Antisemitism
Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Designed for graduate students, this workshop examines contemporary manifestations of antisemitism and the needs and experiences of Jewish people on college campuses and beyond. Participants will explore how antisemitism may emerge overtly or covertly, even in spaces that are seemingly dedicated to belonging and inclusion, and the challenges such dynamics pose for educators, learners and practitioners. Participants will also consider how their own ideas and understandings of Jews and Judaism may impact their perceptions of antisemitism and interactions with Jewish people. The session will include dedicated time for questions and group discussion. The workshop will be facilitated in collaboration with Hillel International’s Campus Climate Initiative and VCU's School of Social Work. Reading A Dress: Fashioning Black Women’s Histories

She guest-curated “Ann Lowe: American Couturier” at Winterthur Museum Garden and Library (2023) and edited the books "Black Designers in American Fashion" (2021) and "Ann Lowe: American Couturier" (2023). Study Pathology in Italy Informational Session

Deadline for Comic Arts Contest Extended to Monday, Feb. 9
Students now have extra time for a chance at a $1,000 prize. VCU Libraries' Jurgen Comics Contest asks artists to create the cover for an imagined comic book about a real-life incident of art censorship or suppression. The deadline for entries is now Monday, Feb. 9. The deadline was extended after schedules were in flux due to wintery weather.

The State Council of Higher Education of Virginia (SCHEV) Student Advisory Committee (SAC) is interested in how students who attend institutes of higher education in Virginia delegate their time. This brief survey (2-5 minutes) is designed to understand time constraints that impact student finances to develop statewide programs to better serve students and ease these time burdens. Participants Are Invited for Study Examining the Impact of Exercise on Cardiovascular Health
This research study is inviting individuals between the ages of 20 and 24 with poor sleep quality. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of aerobic and resistance exercise on cardiovascular responses and vascular inflammation.
