VCU's Department of Painting + Printmaking will present a visiting artist lecture by Gabriela Ruiz in the theater of the VCU Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave. Ruiz is a multimedia artist who works across performance, sculpture, video and digital media. She has shown work at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Palm Springs Art Museum and Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City.

The Clothesline Project

University Counseling Survivor Support presents the Clothesline Project. The project is a visual display dedicated to raising awareness of sexual and intimate partner violence and honoring the experiences of survivors in our community. VCU students, staff, faculty and local community members are invited to participate in private shirt-making sessions. Participants will sign up in person on either day for a time slot to create their shirt privately. Shirts will be displayed during Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April. (Content may be emotionally heavy. Please participate in the way that feels right for you.) AI in Research: 'Climbing Ladders and Avoiding the Snakes' by Shruti Syal, Ph.D.

VCU Libraries' new "AI in Research" series exploring how generative AI is studied and used across VCU, is wrapping up the semester. This online session addresses ethical issues. Shruti Syal, Ph.D., will discuss how she uses Perplexity and Prezi AIs in a way that addresses a few of them: knowledge and data privacy, bias, IP, hallucinations, copyright, explainability, workforce reshaping vs. training, AI use transparency and detractive learning. Syal will also discuss how, despite cautionary steps, concerns about training bias, user data security and scalability are not clearly resolved. Register at the following URL.

Canal Walk

The Urban Studies Student Association and the Urban and Regional Planning Student Association will lead a walk along the canal as well as the Virginia Capital Trail that will provide participants the opportunity to explore together while discussing the city's development. Travel with the group on the bus or meet at the Canal Walk a little after 11 a.m. Bring water, sunscreen and wear comfortable shoes. The walk will be approximately two miles. "Blind Spot" is the first documentary about campus antisemitism before and after Oct 7. The Jewish Community Federation of Richmond is hosting a screening plus a Q&A with the film's Executive Producer, Leonard Gold. Filmed at 12 campuses across the U.S., "Blind Spot" tells the story from the perspectives of more than two dozen students who have experienced and fought against this hatred. Research to Recovery: Student Research Presentations
Rams in Recovery invites research presentations at the 2026 Research to Recovery Conference on May 20 and 21 (Wednesday and Thursday) at the Academic Learning Commons (MCALC), 1000 Floyd Ave. Presentations are sought covering research around substance use and recovery from basic research to prevention, treatment and recovery. The conference will host a mixed audience of treatment providers, community members and academic researchers. Help Us Build a Fitness App That Reflects the Needs of Young Black Women
Black women ages 18-35 who have no experience with resistance exercise (e.g., lifting weights, resistance bands, body weight exercises) are invited to share their perspectives about resistance exercise and their desired features of a mobile app aimed to help guide and track their exercise regimens.
