Call for Art: Submit Works for 'Moving With Intention' Exhibit and Chance at $500 Best-in-Show Prize

To communicate the need for members of the VCU community to maintain awareness and safety on Richmond’s streets and sidewalks, VCU Libraries seeks visual works of art for a curated exhibit for The Cabell Screen – the big screen on the front facade of James Branch Cabell Library. Best in show honorees will receive a $500 prize. Students, staff and faculty and community members are invited to submit art. You may submit more than one piece for consideration. The art selected for “Moving With Intention” should capture, suggest or evoke feelings of alertness, vigilance, care, common sense and vulnerability in the university's urban landscape where car and foot traffic co-mingle. Works may suggest anxiety or danger but the curators are especially interested in works that articulate concepts of safety, care for others and accountability in positive, encouraging, community-building visual voices. Paintings, illustrations, comic arts, animations, short soundless films or videos, kinetic art or photographs – all visual forms – are invited.

Ankle Sprain Research Study (Ages 14–30)

The Research in Athlete and Military Health Sciences (RAMHS) group is seeking participants ages 14-30 years to complete a research study assessing hip muscle function following ankle sprains. You may participate if you either: have a first-time lateral ankle sprai or have no ankle sprain history and are healthy (control group). This study will require one in-person study visit at our research laboratory at Biotech 8, electronic questionnaire about your health and sport participation, ultrasound imaging assessments of your hip at rest (lying down), durring light activity (squatting, treadmill walking) and hip muscle strength assessments. Participants with ankle sprains will also be asked to complete remote, electronic surveys at three and six months after the in-person visit.
